From the Runway to the Sidewalk: 5 Wearable NYFW Trends
Earlier this month we celebrated New York Fashion Week (NYFW) here in New York which happens twice a year, once in late winter then again in early fall. NYFW is a time for top designers and aspiring designers to premiere their fashions to the industry and fashion enthusiasts alike.
While most of the pieces we see featured on the catwalk are often intimidating, there are ways to make pieces work or select statement pieces that can be incorporated into your wardrobe nicely and help upgrade an otherwise plain outfit. Here are some options of NYFW trends that can be taken from the catwalk to the street by us regular girls.
Bermuda Shorts allow you to stay cool while being a bit more modest than most of the shorts styles sold in stores today. If you prefer a more conservative look then Bermuda Shorts are a great option for you. Solid shorts are a classic, easy way to wear Bermuda Shorts and look pulled-together. You can add a pop of color or accessories elsewhere in your outfit to personalize it and make it fun. A dark, solid pair of Bermuda Shorts like these can be dressed up or down and taken from day to night.
Black and White
Beyonce and Kim K have already been spotted wearing this trend. A complete black and white outfit is classic and clean. And, the nice thing about this trend is that you can wear as little or as much white as you want. This dress or any other Dorothy Perkins Black and White dress is a great way to be on trend and can be worn year-round.
Sunglasses have always been in fashion. The nice thing about some of the new designs is that lots of sunglasses are now made with clear lenses that have UV protection. These are trendy but allow you to keep them on indoors as a statement piece, protect your eyes from the sun AND show off your eye makeup if you love it as much as I do. These are a great style to wear especially with a nice big ‘fro.
Leather was in way back in the day (my mom still has quite a few “old school” pieces) but it’s making a comeback. Last fall the military-inspired jacket with the leather (or faux leather) sleeves was a huge trend. For the upcoming spring leather made an appearance on the runway as a stand-alone piece. However, pieces like these faux leather shorts can be purchased for a fraction of the price and look just as fab.
Flats and Low Heels
For the past few years heels – and more specifically the evil stiletto – were the go-to show-stopping shoe for women. This NYFW the shoe game took a new direction finally. Now low heels and flats are in style. We can be stylish and comfortable in a flat like these. This is a great option because it features a cap toe which is in style right now along with animal print – a trend that is classic.
Tip: All of the styles/trends that were featured above can be found on ebay or other discount/bargain websites. I purchased a pair of shades like the ones above from ebay for $1.49 including shipping – you can view them here. If you do decided to save some money and order from ebay, please check the location because if the item is shipping from another country it may be cheaper but it will likely take longer than if it was located in the US. Happy Trending.
