For the longest time, black women have struggled with having available hair and beauty products. Sure, the industry cosmetics and hair care industries have been flourishing and growing for years. Yet, for most of those years, only a handful amongst the hundreds of products flooding our stores were actually wearable by those with darker skin and coarser, curlier hair. Fortunately, things are changing for the better.
The past couple of years, however, black-owned beauty and hair care brands have decided to step up to the plate and give the girls products we can use products we NEED! It excites me to see all the new products that are now flooding the market, by people that can understand the struggles of being excluded from entire foundation shade ranges, or the challenge of finding a shampoo that doesn’t dehydrate hair that thrives on retaining its moisture.
