Every year naturals around the world patiently wait for Curly Girl Collective’s event called CURLFEST. CURLFEST is one of the largest natural beauty festivals held every year in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. This popular event takes place on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 12-7p.m. ,and is presented by SheaMoisture. It brings naturals together to celebrate their hair and beauty with their friends and family. Let’s take a glimpse at last year’s CURLFEST, to get ready for this year’s fun festivities!
Prospect Park’s plush green lawn is filled with naturals basking in the sun, as they listen to classic beats from a DJ. Cheers of excitement break out as attendees challenge each other, and try to win a game of chess or jenga against their friends. Next friends sashay down a Soul Train line, to let everyone know who is the queen and king of this festival. This dance-off leaves them reaching for a snow cone from one of the many food truck vendors.
Also, while you’re there be sure to grab a selfie with popular bloggers such as our editor in chief JenellBStewart ( who will definitely be in attendance this year!), @amberjanelle, @mycandishoppe, @naptural85, @ownbyfemme, @heycurlie, @themariaantoinette and many many more!
Popular haircare brands such as: SheaMoisture, Mielle Organics, Tropical Isle Living, Curls, Creme of Nature, Camille Rose, and many more sell their products, as attendees eagerly wait in line. These brands sell their products at a discounted price, in addition to providing customers with samples of newly released products.
Since the sun shines endlessly during the summer, some attendees wear SPF, hats, and carry umbrellas in an effort to protect themselves from the sun’s harmful rays. An SPF like Trader Joe’s Non-Nano Zinc Mineral Sunscreen stick is perfect for this festival. This SPF contains an ingredient called zinc oxide, which is a physical sunscreen that sits on top of the skin, and acts as a barrier against the sun’s rays.
Some attendees wear the latest hairstyles and makeup trends. Bright colors and bold makeup are the theme to this festival. To create a festival makeup look use Urban Decay’s Primer Potion on your eyelids. Next place Makeup Forever’s 3 Golden Champagne creme eyeshadow on your eyes. Once the liquid eyeshadow is set, line your lash line with Makeup Forever’s Aqua XL ink eyeliner in matte electric blue. Then coat your lashes with L’oreal Lash Paradise mascara.
Now that you have all the deets on CURLFEST, what are some of the activities that you are looking forward to the most?
