I found this great article on NaturallyCurly.com: “5 Remedies to Fight Dull, Dry Hair”
Here are five things you can do at home that will help cure your dull-hair blues and get you back on track to shiny curls.
I’ve never used any of these techniques, but I’ve heard great things about these techniques.
Watch this video to see how I moisturize my hair during the Cold Winter Months!
Beer: I never knew that pouring beer on your hair and letting it sit could be helpful! However I found that beer has a protein in it that can fill in the spaces between the damaged areas in your hair strands.
Hats: Wearing hats is a great way to protect your hair from harsh winter environmental elements like wind, acidic rain water, frozen snow. I’ve had poor success wearing hats when my hair is in a twist out/afro. When my hair is BIG I have to wear a beanie cap with elastic stretch to it.
Baking soda: Using baking soda is helpful in removing product build-up. I’ve personally never used baking soda in my hair to remove product build up. I use shampoo 2-4x a month and that has been very helpful in removing product buildup. Click HERE If you’re interested in learning how to use Baking Soda to remove build up.
Water filter: Using a water filter in your shower can help fight dull, dry hair. Mineral count and chlorine level in local water supplies can drastically change your hair and what products you can use. I live in NYC and the water here is very very hard. I don’t personally have a water filter, but I use a lot of moisturizing products to help protect my hair after washes in hard water.
Shine specific products: If you want something extremely simple that can add shine back to your hair, simply look for products that are made to do just that. Keep in mind, if you’re using these products they can cause build-up so make sure you use a good shampoo and deep condition after a few days of use. I recommend Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie!
