Lavender essential oil is steam distilled from the flowers of Lavendula officinalis. This aromatherapy oil which is used to relieve anxiety, insomnia and even lower high blood pressure, can also be used to make hair care products.
Scalp Massage Oil and Pre Poo Hot Oil
Lavender essential oil has been scientifically proven to promote hair growth. It can therefore be blended with carrier oils to make a scalp massage oil for thinning hair.
36 drops lavender essential oil
2 oz (60 ml) coconut oil
1 oz (30 ml) jojoba
To prepare this scalp massage oil, mix all the ingredients in a dark bowl.
To use this lavender massage oil, apply it onto the areas on the scalp with the thinning hair using your fingertips. Do this at least once a day for the best results.
Since coconut oil and jojoba can penetrate the hair shaft, this scalp massage oil can also be used as a pre poo hot oil treatment.
The fact that lavender essential oil is great for managing damaged hair heal makes this pre poo hot oil treatment wonderful for persons with damaged hair that is also falling off.
To use this mixture of oils as a pre poo hot oil treatment, pour it into a bowl and place that bowl over a pan with warm water. Do not use very hot water since heat destroys the effectiveness of essential oils.
Once the oils become warm, massage them onto the scalp and hair. Put on a plastic cap and tie a towel around your head for around half an hour before shampooing and conditioning.
Lavender Essential Oil Contraindications
Before adding lavender essential oil to your hair care regimen, ensure that you are not pregnant. If you have low blood pressure you should also not use products with lavender essential oil.
In addition, if you have breast cancer or any other tumor that requires hormones to grow, avoid using this aromatherapy oil since it has effects similar to those of estrogen in the body.
