Maintain Your Magic With Self Care

Ladies we have to maintain our magic. Working, running a household and being everything to everyone can wear you down. I am here to provide 5 tips to keep that Black Girl Magic alive.

Meditate

Practicing mindfulness has many health benefits such as aging. It helps reduce stress, improves your sleep and can also help with hair growth. Taking 10 minutes out your day adds years to your life. You can practice on your own by finding a quiet spot and practicing your breathing. Also, there are free apps available on smartphones.  My favorites are Headspace, and Calm.com.

 

Exercise

I know you don’t have time to get to the gym. It doesn’t have to be an overpriced gym membership. Exercise can be a walk, jog or a home workout. Exercise has many physical benefits but it is a healthy way to de-stress. It also helps with your sleep and releases endorphins that improve your mood.

Listen To Music Or A Podcast

I have to wake up really early for work and blasting my songs on the way helps me wake up. Depending on my mood my music taste ranges from gospel to ratchet. If music isn’t your thing, listen to a Podcast. The Read is a really funny one or MyTaughtYou by Myleik Teele always has good content.

Sleep

Get plenty of sleep! It sounds so simple. The side effects are of not having enough sleep are irritability, weak immune system and even risk of heart disease. Sleep allows our body to recharge so we can start fresh the next day. You will perform better at school and work with a full 8 hours or more.

Gratitude

When you are burnt out it is hard to remember the moments that make us smile. The moments we are grateful for. Keeping a gratitude journey or reminding yourself of one joyful moment can help with this. It can be as simple as “I woke up today”. Focusing on what you are grateful for will make you happier in the long run.
