Pumpkin Takeover! 5 DIY Pumpkin Recipes

10-pumpkin

We can’t make a twist or turn this time of the year without running into a pumpkin. The bright orange squash has taken over our parents’ dining room tables, the entryway at Trader Joe’s and the drink menu at Starbucks. Pumpkins are rich in vitamins A, K and C and minerals such as zinc, copper, magnesium and potassium — nutrients that hydrate dry skin and stimulate hair growth. Beta-carotene, the antioxidant that gives a pumpkin its vibrant color, converts to vitamin A in the body and provides another layer of protection from sun damage.

Here are five DIY recipes with pumpkin for your natural hair

DIY Pumpkin Hair Mask for Dry Hair by ValPak

INGREDIENTS
1 can of pumpkin puree (or 1 ½ cup of pureed fresh pumpkin strained)
¼ cup coconut oil
2 tbsp honey

DIRECTIONS
Combine all ingredients into a bowl. The pumpkin hair mask should have the consistency of a conditioner. If it is too watery (depending on the amount of water remaining in the pumpkin puree), add more pumpkin puree to thicken it. Section hair, apply pumpkin hair mask to damp hair beginning at the ends and working your way up to the roots. Tie hair up and cover with shower cap. Let hair mask sit for 20-30 minutes. Rinse hair with water, then shampoo, condition and style hair as usual.

You will notice your hair is softer and shiner. Repeat this treatment once a week for dry damaged hair, and once a month for normal to oily hair.
