Saturday February 13th was legendary. It was epic.
Scratch that, it was EV-ER-Y-THING!! My social media timeline was on fire with all the updates from the trending #TextureOnTheRunway event (sponsored by TargetStyle). TextureMedia gave curly, coily and wavy hair a platform for representation at New York Fashion Week by presenting an exclusive runway hair event showcasing curls, coils and waves.
The event was hosted by NaturallyCurly’s Co-Founder, Michelle Breyer and co hosted by Patrice Grell Yursik, the founder of Afrobella whom is one of my greatest inspirations. [When I first went natural back in 2010, I frequented Afrobella.com daily and looked to Patrice’s YT channel for the real deal with hair care and product selection. Since then I’ve been insipred by Patrice to be a great business woman and a leader in the black beauty space be educating my audience.]
I attended this same event which highlights the beauty of curls, coils, and waves on the runway, 4 years ago and last Saturday I was a part of history again. For the first time in my life, not only was a runway during NYFW dominated by beautiful black women, but it was predominantly beautiful black women with beautiful natural hair.
I can’t forget to mention that the looks you see here were achieved by using products that are all on the shelves at Target. Au Naturale Dark and Lovely, Cantu, Creme of Nature, Design Essentials and Garnier Fructis put together 5 collections showcasing unique interpretations of curls, coils and waves. I’m still getting my life on how fabulous everyone looked on the runway.
There was so much fun to be had at this event because just about every NYC blogger was present.
