A Satin lined beanie is the perfect accessory for winter! Obviously it will keep your head and ears warm, but also it can protect your hair. I like to wear satin lined beanies as a protective style. I will twist up my hair, and throw on my beanie and rock that for a few days. This allows for me to give my hair a break and also look chic and stylish at the same time.

As an avid believer of deep conditioning I think it's imperative during the winter months to continue to deep condition as part of your wash day regimen. My holy grail DC is TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask. This deep conditioner has amazing slip and really gets out all the tangles and single-strand knots that I frequently have on my short tapered cut. It smells amazing and I don't have to add any additional products like oil to it.

TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask, $15.99 at Thank God It's Natural

Sabrina's Winter Picks

Just because I do have a short tapered cut does not mean that it is easier to detangle my hair so I do pre-poo. I found that INSPIRE Pre-poo Detangler by Made Beautiful alleviates the struggle that I might have especially when I have finger coils in my hair for 7+ days. I slather this bad boy on and rake my fingers through and let it sit with a shower cap and then I start my wash day process.

INSPIRE Pre-poo Detangler, $8.99 at Made Beautiful

Sabrina's Winter Picks

I use this product in any season but especially in the winter months. I love Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I usually cheat and add a little bit of it to the center of my head and massage into my scalp and around my hairline where my hair is finer with my pre-poo and my deep conditioner.

Winter Hair Care Tip

The key to moisture is water. The dry, winter air (with no humidity) will leave your strands thirsty.  Steam your hair to avoid over-saturating your hair.

Invest in a natural hair butter, such as the Thank God It’s Natural Organic African Shea Butter, especially if you have low porosity hair. In the winter, it is difficult to keep your hair’s moisture balance in check.  The cold air can suck the moisture from your tresses just as quickly as the sun’s rays.

Thank God It’s Natural Organic African Shea Butter , $14.99 at Just Natural Products

Chime's Winter Picks

If you want to reduce breakage and restore luster and shine, you should definitely give the Just Naturals Damage & Extreme Dry Hair Treatment a try. This hair treatment fully conditions dry strands and produces a nutritive shine. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and it will have your brittle strands feeling like butter.

I live in Denver, CO and it gets cold here during winter. I am not an avid hat wearer but I wear my natural hair in a wash and go year-round. I often walk out the house with a wet head. Winter Hair Care Tip

For battling the winter effects on my tresses, I have found that sticking to a routine helps add and retain moisture, prevents breakage & in turn promotes the health of my tresses. During the winter I live by the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time I moisturize & tuck away the tresses and 20% of the time I style my tresses.

The key to a bomb (digidy) twistout is to apply the product and rake from end to roots with your fingers. The raking motion will allow the curls to clump up together, which allows for easy separation when you are ready to rock a full voluminous twist out.
